We Still Get Handwritten Testimonials

99% of the customer testimonials we get are via our web form or email or Facebook page, but every now and again we get some sent to us via the old school method -- snail mail.

We also occasionally get a caller or emailer who insists we make up our testimonials, that the hundreds upon hundreds of testimonals we have aren't real. Well, we hate to break the news, but every single testimonial we get is real, from a real person who gave us permission to use their statement. We are a family owned business, and we wouldn't dare manufacture customer testimonials or comments. That's not how you stay in business for over 50 years.

Going through some testimonial archives, here are three we received last year in written form. In this digital world, it's cooler than you think to receive something in the mail like this.

Bottom line: our customers are awesome.

Rislone's bill Reichert Scores 2nd Win in 3 Starts in Indy

CLERMONT, Ind. – Former 5-time NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster World Champion Bill Reichert took another step to regaining his crown with a win during this past weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series North Central Region opener at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. The win was his second in three starts in his Rislone Engine Treatment backed injected-nitro dragster.

Reichert, from Owosso, Mich., qualified No. 1 with a 5.301 second elapsed time at 264.65 mph that would stand as low e.t. of the event. After qualifying was complete, rains moved into the Indianapolis area and forced the event to be pushed back a week. More rain was in store as the racers returned, leading to eliminations on Monday.

In round one, Reichert took out the nitro burner of Dave Hirata with a 5.417 at 261.78 mph, and then defeated Jared Dreher with a 5.431 at 258.62 mph in the semifinals. The final would be a battle of former US Nationals winners as Reichert squared off with Marty Thacker’s blown alcohol entry. Thacker, known for his quick reaction times got a small starting line advantage, but that was quickly negated as Reichert stayed consistent with a 5.426 at 252.90 to Thacker’s 5.469 at 260.61.

“After all these years, I’ve figured out how to let my experience work for me instead of against me on the tree,” said Reichert. “All you have to do is hit the gas when the yellow light comes on, right? Why does that have to be so difficult? Trying to force yourself to have a good reaction time just doesn’t work. You have to trust yourself and let it happen.”

The Rislone team will get a weekend off before heading back to North Central Region action for the Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, May 17-19.

Happy Earth Day

Even though we develop and sell chemical solutions, Earth Day is a big deal to us around here. Why? We spend our days helping folks stop their car's s leaks so they can run run cleaner and longer. We've had folks thank us for helping them clean up their oil-spotted driveway. We've had folks tell us that before using our product, they were using a quart of oil a day -- because their car leaked so badly. The bottom line is that a leaking car is a toxic car, as far as the environment goes.

Stopping leaks is indeed a big deal for the car and owner, but we're more than aware that less leaking cars on the road, the better for the Earth and everyone who lives on it. Call it a secondary benefit to our products.

Bar's Leaks Product Highlighted on Boston.com

Here's John Paul, writing for Boston.com, answering a reader's question about his leaking 2000 Mitsubishi Montero:

Q. I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero with 3.0L V-6 and over 180,000 miles on it, and recently had oil smoke and oil leaks. The estimate for repairs was more than the value of the vehicle, so after a little research I used a "Stop-Leak" product from Bars, and for $20 solved everything. Do you think this fix will last?

A. At twenty dollars, you had practically nothing to lose. These types of additives cause the seals in the engine to swell, stopping the oil. The additive most likely fixed the oil smoke by restoring the valve guide seals and the external leaks by swelling the camshaft seals and other gaskets. At some point, the seals will fail and an actual repair will be necessary. I have used this product and seen thousands of miles before repairs were necessary. Good luck!

Will Bar's Leaks Head Gasket Products Fix Your Leak?

By far the number one question we get on our tech lines and Facebook is:

“How can I tell if your head gasket products will fix my head gasket leak? I’ve heard some of these products don’t work.”

First off, if you haven’t read our Buyer’s Guide on choosing the right head gasket repair solution, you might find that helpful when it comes to deciding which of our products is best suited for you, your technical expertise level and your particular problem.

There is one ultimate truth, no matter what any chemical tool vendor tells you: if your head gasket leak is too serious, no chemical tool will seal the leak. None. Zip. Zero. We’d love to tell you otherwise, but we’d be lying. If your leak is severe, then you’re looking at a physical repair. That’s the reality.

But there are many shades of gray between a perfectly healthy head gasket and one that needs a physical repair, and that’s where we come in.

So, here’s how to tell if your head gasket leak is a candidate for one of our head gasket repair solutions:

Can your car run or be driven for 15 minutes without overheating?

First, the bad news: if your vehicle cannot run for 15 mintues without overheating, your leak is probably too severe to be chemically sealed. In cases like this, there is less than a 50% chance we chan help.

But if your vehicle can run for 15 mintues without overheating, then our strongest product, Bar's Leaks Professional Carbon Fiber Block Seal Head Gasket & Cooling Sealant (p/n HG-1) will likely work. HG-1 is our most expensive product, one that's truly pro-grade, but it’s also our strongest formula, designed for the toughest leaks. It’s also very convenient and easy to install, with no draining or flushing necessary unless the cooling system is dirty or partially clogged or if you need to drain some coolant out to get the proper dosage in.

But wait. Before you decide on our HG-1 product, there is another question:

Can your car run or be driven for 20 minutes without overheating?

If so, then you are likely a candidate for our Bar’s Leaks Head Gasket Fix (p/n 1111), one of our most wildly popular products. Why is it popular? It has a medium price point and is very easy to install because it’s antifreeze-compatible. Its sealing strength is a bit below our HG-1 product, but the installation is quick and easy. For most mild to moderate HG leaks, this product has worked wonders for tens of thousands of customers.

If you want a cheaper, but also strong product whose installation is a bit more involved, our Bar’s Leaks Head Gasket Repair (pn 1100) is a great option. It offers a very strong seal, (though not as strong as our HG-1) lower price, but installation is more demanding because the formula is not compatible with antifreeze.

So, in a nutshell, this is how you can tell if one of our products will be able to help with with your head gasket leak:

If your vehicle can run for 15 minutes without overheating and you need our most professional-grade solution, consider our HG-1 product.
If your vehicle can run for 20 minutes without overheating, consider our 1111 product or 1100 product, depending on how easy you want the installation to be.
Bottom line that most chemical seal vendors won't tell you: If your vehicle overheats within 15 minutes, chances are you need a physical repair by a licensed facility/mechanic. We’d love to be able to sell you a product, but if your car is overheating rapidly, no chemical fix will work. It’s not just ours that probably won’t work, but any. Save your money for a mechanic’s attention.

PHOTOS: How Rislone Fuel Injector Cleaner with UCL Improves Gas Mileage

Here’s a personal, unscientific illustration of how our Rislone Fuel Injector Cleaner with UCL can improve gas mileage. Note: this is not a guarantee that all cars/situations will see these results. This is just one casual test conducted at one point in time on one car.

Backstory: I used to have a Volkswagen GTI MkV. I used our Rislone Fuel Injector Cleaner with UCL back then and saw an approximate 8%–10% increase in MPG. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any photos or log any data to illustrate it.

I’m now driving another car, and decided to run the same test.

The first picture is what I get without using Rislone Fuel Injector Cleaner with UCL. This was shot about 50 miles into a full tank of gas.

As you can see, I'm getting 21.6 MPG.

This next photo was taken with Rislone Fuel Injector Cleaner with UCL installed in a full tank of gas. Like the first photo, I shot this 50 miles into the tank to allow the product to circulate. I took the photo on the same road with zero change in my driving habits. Temperature was in the mid–40s, same as the first pic.

With Rislone, I'm up to 23.9 MPG.

That’s a 2.3 MPG increase, or about 10%, as I noticed with my Volkswagen. To boot, the car run smoother with our product installed, and it helps combat the quality inconsistencies of ‘winter gas’.

We’ve had car clubs and customers write and call us to tell us how our fuel injector cleaner with UCL is the first one that’s actually worked for them, but we haven’t been able to put numbers to it. Pretty cool!

"An Absolute MIRACLE Product!"

The C-16 is an absolute MIRACLE PRODUCT !!! It completely cured my daughter's 1997 Ford Escort head gasket leak. I know you have other products more specifically meant for head gaskets, but we weren't totally sure it was just the head gasket. The C-16 covered more areas of concern.

We had been fighting a nagging coolant leak which was never visible, only indication were bubbles observed inside the overflow bottle - even at idle. She leaked at least 1 gallon a week for months. I didn't want to spend $$$ for someone else or for me to do a head gasket job on this older car. So, Ielected to use your product, only one bottle, and ran it for 30 mins. Lo and behold, this car never saw another drop of anti-freeze for 2 years after Bar's Leaks was added. We just sold the car and the coolant system is still ROCK SOLID. I'm a retired Ford engineer and was very skeptical about this fixing a head gasket leak for under $10. You made a believer out of me. Thanks to your team!!

(P.S. - my dad and I used to sell your product at our Gulf Station 40 years ago, where we used it extenstively to repair radiators - just didn't know it would do such a great job with HEAD GASKET leaks!!)
